Queen Of The Universe With My Friends

Creating Music with the Children of Queen of the Universe School:

Working with the children at Queen of the Universe School was an extraordinary and enriching experience. With the help of Mr. Cox and Miss Connolly, we organised two workshops designed to spark creativity and collaboration among the children, who were between the ages of 7 and 11.

Our first workshop aimed to start a conversation with the children, allowing us to tap into their thoughts and feelings. We discovered that their friendships and the school playground played pivotal roles in their daily lives, offering them joy and a sense of belonging. This dialogue provided a treasure trove of positive sentiments and insights, which became the foundation for our musical project.

The children chose a Taylor Swift song called “Style” as the basis for our project. This choice was perfect as it provided a familiar structure for them to work with. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it was clear that music was a powerful way to express their feelings and experiences.

With a rough demo of the music ready, I returned to the children, played the demo, and handed out the printed positive lines we had gathered from our conversations. The children were then divided into groups, each tasked with creating verses for the song. Their creativity shone through as they crafted four beautiful verses, each one reflecting their unique perspectives and the joy they found in their friendships and school environment.

After reviewing the verses, I selected one to serve as the chorus, ensuring it fit seamlessly with the music. This selection process was crucial in giving the song a cohesive and harmonious feel.

Returning to the children with the finished version of the song was a magical moment. We presented them with the complete lyrics, and seeing their faces light up with pride and excitement was incredibly rewarding. The children’s contribution was not just about writing a song; it was about sharing a piece of their world and creating something beautiful together.

The workshops at Queen of the Universe School shows the power of music and collaboration. The children’s enthusiasm and creativity were inspiring, and the experience highlighted the importance of nurturing artistic expression in young minds. Through this project, we created not just a song but lasting memories and a sense of accomplishment for everyone involved. Working with these young talents was truly a fantastic experience, and I look forward to more opportunities to engage and inspire through the universal language of music
